Lance Mindheim's Perspective article in the December 2024 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine is EXACTLY why I created this page. I do have the space to build a medium-sized model railroad, but I don't have the time thanks to work & family. Of course, the real railroad takes A LOT of my time & the rest of the time is devoted to my family, so modeling time is very, very limited. Take a look at this article & see if you might be in the same situation(s).
This blog focuses on my HO Scale layout of the PRR's Cambridge Secondary Track (between Seaford, DE & Cambridge, MD).

Boomer Diorama
I want to mention one of the great modelers I follow (& suggest you follow it too) is Boomer Diorama | River Road on YouTube. Here's a link to his work:
He does some fantastic scratch building. I also fall in line with his thoughts on modeling, in general.
From what I can tell, Boomer is only on YouTube (no other social media - I can't blame him for that).

DuPont Seaford, DE in 1939
I love this shot of the DuPont Company's plant in Seaford, DE on the Cambridge Secondary Track in 1939 - right after they opened shared by the Seaford Delaware, a look back in time page. Take a look at not all of those automobiles, but their makes & models!

Work Keeps Expanding
Mid-August 2024, the railroad I work for (Delmarva Central Railroad, part of Carload Express) put in official notice with the Surface Transportation Board that we plan on purchasing part of the Maryland & Delaware Railroad & making part of the Delmarva Central Railroad. There's future plans to purchase the remaining M&D & making it a separate railroad within the Carload Express family.
So I started my railroad career (in July 1984) on the Delaware Coast Line Railroad. Delmarva Central took over both the Georgetown-Lewes & the Ellendale-Milton lines on January 1, 2019.
Now in 2024, we taking over part of the M&D Snow Hill Line & (eventually) one of the railroad lines I model - the Cambridge Line (Seaford - Cambridge). I don't know what the future brings for the line west of Hurlock, MD, but I think the future is looking bright for the former M&D lines.
The notice to the STB was filed August 20, 2024, to acquire part of the MDDE Snow Hill Line & here's the link to the STB:

PRR 60 on the Move
This is pretty cool & has been a long time coming - PRR 60 is being moved on the Wilmington & Western Railroad from Hockessin, DE to Marshallton, DE to (eventually) head to Lewes, DE for the Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association to be displayed with the cabin car I used to work on during my time at the Delaware Coast Line Railroad. The 60 will have to go by truck to Lewes.

No Updates
Still no updates on my model railroad plans. I'm hoping to free-up some time to devote to modeling, but the railroad keeps me busy so free time isn't easy to find right now.

Conundrum
I'm at a crossroads, currently.
I've been promoted at the railroad, so now my limited time for modeling has been reduced, a second time, & now there's even less time to devote to my hobby (that's what happens when you're a professional railroad folks - 40 years this year now).
I have to do some soul-searching to see what I want to do with the Cambridge Secondary Track. I might now NOT have the time to model it, but then again, I might.
I guess the next few months will help me determine exactly what I'm going to do next.
As you always see, stay tuned!

Dave Frary Carrabasset and Dead River Model Railroad
I forgot to mention one of my influences in model railroading: Dave Frary's Carrabasset & Dead River model railroad. Growing up in the 1970s, you couldn't read either Model Railroader magazine or Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine without seeing Dave's Maine 2-footer (HOn3 using N scale track).
